EARS ARRL Field Day 2026

Field Day is one of the biggest weekends in amateur radio each year, and I am excited to announce that EARS will once again be participating in ARRL Field Day 2026.

Field Day combines emergency preparedness, portable operating, public outreach, and fellowship into a 24-hour operating event involving thousands of amateur radio operators across North America. Clubs and individuals set up temporary stations in parks, fields, and emergency-style operating locations to demonstrate the versatility and importance of amateur radio communications.

Whether you’re a seasoned contester, a newly licensed amateur, or someone who simply wants to learn more about amateur radio, Field Day offers a great opportunity to get on the air, learn new skills, and spend time with fellow hams.

Event Schedule

Setup

Saturday, June 27, 2026

We plan to begin setup between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM.

This will include unloading equipment, setting up antennas, assembling operating positions, installing computers, and preparing the site for operation.

Operating Period

Begins: Saturday, June 27 at 1:00 PM
Ends: Sunday, June 28 at 1:00 PM

EARS plans to operate for the entire 24-hour Field Day period.

Location

Oklahoma City Gun Club

12465 E Sorghum Mill Rd
Arcadia, OK 73007

We will be operating from the pavilion and large open area just inside the main gate.

The site provides a large amount of open space for antennas and operating positions while also offering convenient access to restrooms, water, and AC power.

Planned Station Setup

EARS plans to operate as a:

3A Field Day Station

Our current operating plan includes:

  • Three HF operating stations
  • One 6-meter VHF station

This will allow multiple operators to be on the air simultaneously throughout the event.

Equipment Status

Radios

We have made excellent progress on securing radios for Field Day.

Our goal is to have four radios available for operation. Thanks to several members who have volunteered equipment, we currently have approximately 2–3 of the radios needed.

We could still use one or two additional radios so that we have enough equipment for all planned stations and at least one spare available while stations are being set up, tested, and maintained throughout the weekend.

If you have equipment available and would be willing to loan it for the event, please let me know.

Antennas

We are in great shape on antennas and do not currently need any additional antenna systems.

Our planned antenna lineup includes:

  • Tri-band beam on the tower trailer
  • 6-meter beam on a shorter tower
  • Buckmaster 160-meter Off-Center Fed Dipole
  • Multi-band vertical

This combination should give us excellent coverage across the bands we plan to operate.

Computers

I am currently working on picking up the club computers from the EOC and preparing them for Field Day logging and operations.

Power and Site Amenities

The site includes:

  • Restrooms
  • Water access
  • AC power for lighting and fans

To maximize our Field Day score and operate in the spirit of emergency communications, the radios, computers, and primary operating equipment will be powered by generator.

I am also pleased to report that we have secured the use of a large air-conditioned Western Shelter from the Oklahoma County Health Department. This will provide a much more comfortable operating environment during the hottest part of the weekend and give us additional room for operators and equipment.

We will need approximately 6–10 volunteers Saturday morning to help unload, assemble, and set up the shelter.

Volunteers Needed

Field Day is truly a club-wide effort, and we need help from many members to make it successful.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with:

  • Shelter setup
  • Antenna setup
  • Radio setup
  • Computer setup
  • Generator and power distribution
  • Operating positions
  • Logging
  • Hospitality and general support
  • Tear-down Sunday afternoon

Whether you can help for an hour, a few hours, or the entire weekend, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

There will be opportunities for everyone to participate, regardless of experience level.

Please Sign Up

A volunteer sign-up form is located at the bottom of this page.

Please take a moment to complete the form and indicate how you are able to help. This information will help us determine where we have adequate coverage and where additional volunteers are needed.

The more information we have ahead of time, the smoother Field Day weekend will be for everyone.
