About EARS
EARS Field Day 1962 - Operator, Preston George K5CBA. Hammarlund HQ-140X Receiver and Heathkit DX-100 Transmitter The Edmond Amateur Radio Society (EARS) began with a few Amateur Radio operators meeting at each other's homes in the 1950's. The group expanded by helping others interested in Amateur Radio to obtain their licenses. The EARS organization began as we know it in 1959. Information Net - Each Monday night EARS holds an information net to exchange traffic of interest to the Amateur Radio community. Please check in on 147.135+ or 443.425+. Additionally, there is a link to the Lawton-Chickasha area through the 135 repeater. Business Meetings - General Business Meetings are at 2:00pm on the third Sunday of odd numbered months in Room 110 of the Edmond Downtown Community Center. All members are encouraged to participate in these important meetings. Board Meetings - The Board of Directors conduct the day-to-day business of the Club and reports to the Club membership at the above described bi-monthly Business Meetings. The Board meets monthly at 7:00pm on the second Tuesday in Room 219. Dinner Meetings - Informal dinner meetings at a local restaurant usually occur on the 3rd Thursday of even numbered months. Check this website for more details. Bring the spouse and kids to this family-friendly night of food and fellowship. ARRL Special Service Club - EARS is proud to fulfill ARRL Special Service Club requirements including new ham education, public relations, preparation for emergency communications, technical advancement, as well as other operating activities. 501(c)3 Status - EARS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing public service to the community. Donations of newer functioning ham radio equipment as well as monetary contributions are welcomed. Emergency Siren Tests - Siren Tests are conducted on the first Saturday of the month (weather permitting). Volunteers should be at their sirens at 11:45am. Two tests are usually conducted. Scholarship - The Bertha Watson Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00 is awarded to a deserving University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) bound high school senior. $500.00 is provided by the generosity of EARS members and these funds are matched by the UCO Foundation. Licensing Classes - EARS conducts licensing classes with instruction by very experienced hams in the Club. Watch this website for information on upcoming classes. VE Sessions - An ARRL affiliated Volunteer Exam session is conducted on the 1st Saturday of each month at 9:30am in Room 219 of the Edmond Downtown Community Center. Weather Nets - Weather Nets are called as necessary during inclement conditions. Monitor 147.135+ or 443.425+ for more information. Storm Spotter observations noting severe conditions are relayed to the National Weather Service. Repeater Coverage - The EARS repeaters are frequently linked to Lawton/Chickasha as well as to Watonga (Northwest Passage) and beyond! Echolink - Access to Echolink is provided by EARS volunteers on 443.150+ (79.7 Hz PL). Information on the use of this repeater is provided at http://www.w5biv.com.
